Downturned Smile Treatment in Milton Keynes
Consultation-led support for mouth-corner descent, lower-face heaviness and a less lifted or less positive expression.
A downturned smile can make the face look sad or tired even when you are not feeling that way. It may be linked to mouth-corner pull, lower-face support loss, volume depletion or early jowling. At Shujo Aesthetics, we assess the lower face as a whole and recommend treatment conservatively.
Understanding the Condition
What Is Downturned Smile?
A downturned smile occurs when the corners of the mouth pull or droop downward, creating a resting expression that may appear sad, tired or disapproving — even when the patient feels perfectly content. This can be caused by overactivity of the depressor anguli oris muscle, which pulls the mouth corners down, or by age-related loss of support in the lower face that allows the corners to descend over time. In many patients, both factors are present.
Clinically Treatable
A downturned smile may be caused by muscle pull, lower-face laxity or a combination of both.

How We Can Help
Our Approach at Shujo Aesthetics
The best result often comes from balancing the lower face rather than chasing one line. Treatment may involve support, softening of pull or a staged rejuvenation plan.
